چکیده

INTRODUCTION: Some authors have reported satisfactory short-term results of minimally invasive decompressive procedures such as microscopic or micro-endoscopic decompressive laminotomy for lumbar spinal canal stenosis. However, there have been no reports on the long-term clinical outcome of these procedures. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the long-term clinical outcome and radiological changes in patients who underwent microsurgical bilateral decompression via a unilateral

Clinical and Radiological Outcomes after Microscopic Bilateral Decompression via a Unilateral Approach for Degenerative Lumbar Disease: Minimum 5-Year Follow-Up

STUDY DESIGN A retrospective study. PURPOSE To assess postoperative bone regrowth at surgical sites after lumbar decompression with >5 years of follow-up. Postoperative preservation of facet joints and segmental spinal instability following surgery were also evaluated. OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE Previous reports have documented bone regrowth after conventional laminectomy or laminotomy and seve...

Efficacy of unilateral laminectomy for bilateral decompression in lumbar spinal stenosis.

OBJECTIVE We have conducted a prospective study to evaluate the results and effectiveness of bilateral decompression via a unilateral laminectomy in 50 patients with 98 levels of degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis without instability. METHODS Clinical outcomes were assessed using the Visual Analog Scale, Oswestry Disability Index, Short Form-36, and subjective Satisfaction Measurement. RES...

Microsurgical Bilateral Discectomy via a Unilateral Approach for Huge Central Lumbar Disc with the CO2 Laser

Objective: Large central disc herniation is not common. Generally, wide and aggressive surgery is required for total disc removal. But, wide decompression such as total laminectomy for adequate disc removal may have risk of spinal instability. Methods: We operated on large central disc herniation by microsurgical Bilateral Discectomy via a Unilateral Approach (BDUA). With modification of this t...

Minimum 3-Year Outcomes in Patients with Lumbar Spinal Stenosis after Bilateral Microdecompression by Unilateral or Bilateral Laminotomy

OBJECTIVE Lumbar spine stenosis (LSS) can result in symptomatic compression of the neural elements, requiring surgical treatment if conservative management fails. Minimally invasive surgery has come to be more commonly used for the treatment of LSS. The current study describes outcomes of bilateral microdecompression by unilateral or bilateral laminotomy (BML) for degenerative LSS after a minim...

Micro Lumbar Decompression for Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

Spinal stenosis was described, for the first time, as one of the causes of neural compression by Bailey and Casamajor (1) in 1911. Later, in 1954, it was described by Verbiest (2) as the typical clinical presentation of bilateral neurogenic claudication, which is provoked by prolonged standing and lower back extension and relieved by sitting and flexing the lumbar spine. Degenerative lumbar spi...
